// How We Test: Real-World Biohacking Protocols & Standards
The biohacking market is flooded with overhyped gadgets, flashy marketing, ultra-expensive products, and unverified claims. At Garage Biohacker, we test gear the way you actually use it—in the real world, over weeks or months, rather than just unboxing it for a quick review.
I test all this equipment right out of my garage. While I occasionally head to a clinic to try out more extreme therapies, my main focus is on home biohacking equipment: things you can use every day, simply and easily, that fit into real life and deliver serious upside without requiring a clinical setup.
// 01 How We Pick Products To Test
Industry Standards & Pure Curiosity
I maintain a running list of top companies and products pushing industry standards, backed by solid research. However, true biohacking also means chasing curiosity. If a modality like hydrogen water or cupping lacks overwhelming clinical backing but sparks my interest, I will still test it out to see if the real-world utility matches the hype.
Priority
I carefully prioritize the products I believe will offer the biggest upside and genuinely help both myself and you. Because of this I refuse to compromise on editorial independence, I personally fund the core lab. I choose products strictly based on maximum biological upside. If a piece of gear makes the cut, it's because it earned its spot on Garage Biohacker recommended.
Review Units & Loans
Occasionally, companies reach out to offer a free product or a loaner. I only accept items from reputable brands with strong quality indicators. Free products are always explicitly disclosed, and every company knows upfront that they are getting 100% honesty.
My Passion
I focus strictly on products I actually want and would buy regardless of whether I posted about them. My wishlist is massive, so if a review takes time, bear with me—it’s coming.
Failure/Rejection Clause
If a brand fails my safety checks or doesn't deliver real-world utility during initial testing, I quietly pack it up and send it back—no review published, no hard feelings.
// 02 Our Core Testing Pillars
Long-Term Durability & Habit Integration
Can this device fit into a busy, daily routine? I'm a heavy user who puts products through months of normal, rigorous use to see if they actually hold up.
Build Quality & Safety
Evaluating materials, EMF emissions, heat output, battery life, usability, irradiance, and overall safety mechanisms.
Data & Metrics Verification
All the ways we track changes and progress are fully detailed on my protocol page. I don’t rely on 'how I feel today.' Every gadget is cross-referenced against my own biological baseline—tracking changes via my sleep scores, HRV, and physical metrics as outlined on my protocol page.
Value vs. Cost
Determining whether an expensive flagship device is actually worth ten times the price of a budget alternative.
// 03 The Testing Process
1. Unboxing & First Impressions
Assessing packaging, build quality, ease of setup, and user interface right out of the box.
2. The Integration Phase
Putting the gadget through rigorous daily use under real-world conditions. Testing ranges from 7, 10, or 30 days all the way to 6+ months (tracking long-term evolution and progress from when I first started red light therapy to now).
3. The Stress Test & Comparative Analysis
Pushing the device to its limits and, where possible, comparing it head-to-head against industry gold standards or competing tools.
4. The Verdict
Scoring it honestly on performance, flaws, and who it is actually built for.
// 04 Independence & Affiliate Disclosure
As outlined in my ethical code, any free or loaned products are always fully disclosed. No company can buy a good review; staying 100% true and honest is everything. If a brand doesn’t align with those values, you simply won't see them here.
I do use affiliate links for products I genuinely love and recommend. One hundred percent of the commission goes right back into buying more gear and funding the garage lab.
